Society and culturE: COFFIN SHIPS
Significance; In the 1800’s, many Irish people were trying to scape the famine that had plagued Ireland. When the opportunity a rised for them to have a cheap and promised way to get to Canada, many jumped aboard. Literally. Thousands of people got onto shipping carts, taking them to Canada without knowing what could happen. The ships they had boarded were not meant to hold people, they were meant to hold cargo. They were thrown into the bottom of the ship with no sunlight or air flow. They were fed scraps and were withheld drinking water. Up to 30% of the people on the ships did not end up making it to Canada. Receiving the name, “Coffin ships.” How it changed history; These ships changed history because of the amount of Irish people they brought over. Enviroment and Geo: THE METIS SCRIPT Significance; The significance of the Metis Script is it was in compensation of having their land and title taken away from them. The government had taking away the Aboriginal’s titles and when they gave them the recognition of an apology. They were given about 160-240 acres of land. How it changed history; It changed history by how it was the White government trying to take control of the Aboriginals lives. How it relates to the theme; It relates to the theme of environment and geography by talking about the land that the Aboriginal people owned. They were there first and were then kicked off of the land. Why I chose this object; I chose this object because I feel like the way the aboriginal people were treated very unfairly. The script gave them smaller portions of land. |
